CASTAIC BASS CLUB NEWSLETTER
November 2004
Terry Kratzer, Editor
Meetings-second Thursday of the month
Next meeting-November 11th at Hamburger Hamlet in Valencia
Circuit finishes up at Pyramid
The 10th and final tournament of the 2004 CBC circuit took place at Pyramid on October 17th. Taking first were Buck and J.D. with a limit weighing
11.85lbs led by Buck’s 3.40lb event big fish. Taking second were Mike Carpenter and Richard Cook with another limit weighing 11.16lbs. Taking
third were Doug and Marcia with a limit weighing 9.97lbs. And congratulations to Doug for winning Angler of the year! Problems with September
rule infractions
As many of you remember, a sheet of rules was passed out at the September meeting to ensure that we did not have a repeat of the July tournament
paper weigh in when several members did not follow a verbal request of writing down their fish as they were caught. In order to ensure that members
would not be in the parking lot trying to remember the weight of fish they had caught because they failed to write them down as they were caught, a
set of rules were drafted and were signed by each and every member prior to the tournament. This was in strict adherence to our by-laws which say in
Appendix A, under monthly tournament rules, “Because of our commitment to catch and release, all tournaments, unless otherwise agreed upon before
the start of a tournament, will be fished in adherence to the following rules...” Guess what folks, one of the rules agreed upon before the tournament
was to have each boater drop off his weight slip at the finger dock with Karl. Since Karl stood down on the dock for several minutes after the 2PM
weigh in and several members did not turn in their weight slips, several members were disqualified for not following this rule In case you were
wondering, this is not the first time a member has been penalized for rules infractions. Just last year a member given a weight penalty for weighing in a
short fish and several years ago a member was disqualified for failure to pay dues prior to a tournament. Unfortunately, we have had a couple of
members quit the club as a result of being disqualified for these rules violations. I can tell you that the subject of rules infractions was discussed at
length at the last executive meeting. It is indeed unfortunate to see members exit because of something like this. Not because we have less members,
but because we hate to lose good people. What I’m trying to figure out is which organizations allow rules infractions to occur while doing nothing
about it. If you are fishing any tournament out there and you break any kind of a rule you are done for the day. Otherwise rules are just a waste of
time. Please folks, before “jumping the gun” and deciding to leave the club, please read the following message..... Benefits of being a member of
the Castaic Bass Club
1. A great way to make friends and fish and learn from a different partner each month.
2. Learning from a guest speaker each month, for free.
3. Lots of tournaments close to home, with a minimum of expense and travel.
4. Club funded camping trips once or twice a year.
5. Night tournament BBQ’s in conjunction with the Friends of Castaic Lake, with the opportunity to go out night fishing for free afterwards. 6.
Several fundraisers each year, including BBQ’s, which allow us to fund things like camping trips, year end banquets and an enormous amount of
trophies and awards, provided generously by our sponsors (which number over a dozen.) 7. Being a member of one of the most well respected clubs
around with several members being members of the Friends of Castaic, keeping you up to date on issues such as possible lake closures.
Take a hard look at these things, especially #’s two-seven. I don’t know any other clubs that offer these things.

Last Meeting
The speaker at our last meeting was veteran Western Pro Stan Vanderburg. Stan gave a great speech on his recent high finish in the U.S. Open at Lake
Mead.
We will not have a speaker at our next meeting, but this is certainly not your ticket to stay home and not attend. Many important items will be
discussed at this meeting, including the following:
1. Voting on new club officers.
2. Discussion of club banquet. You are allowed to bring a guest so you must let us know at the meeting if you plan to attend the banquet.
3. Discussion of new ideas on how to make the club better-if you have some please bring them. 4. Distribution of donation request sheets for our
sponsors. Remember, the more stuff you collect, the more you will receive at the banquet.
5. If you have a plaque from last year that still has room on it to add you accomplishments from this year, then you need to bring it to the next
meeting. If you have placed 1st through 4th in any club tournament or caught an event big fish this last year, please bring the plaque to the next
meeting. If we don’t have it, there is no way we can get it updated.. 6. I will personally be taking down the names of all people who have helped out
with any of our fundraisers from this past year. Remember, for every fundraiser who help out with, you will receive $3 off your annual dues at
January’s meeting (annual dues at the beginning of the year usually are $25). 7. Last but not least, no matter how well or how bad you have done this
past year, if your dues are not paid up then you won’t be getting anything and you also won’t be attending the banquet. Please make sure you pay
your dues at the next meeting. Remember, dues must be paid in full to have any benefits that the club offers. As you can see, attendance at the next
meeting is critical!
Club Banquet
The annual club Banquet and awards dinner will be held on Sunday, December 5th starting at 1PM at Don Cuco’s, located at 27247 Camp Plenty
Road in Canyon Country. This is not the same Don Cuco’s that J.D. works at in Newhall. This will be an all you can eat Champagne Brunch
including Juice, any other soft or hard drinks can be purchased separately by club members. Please arrive on time as the buffet will be open until
3PM. Another party will be coming in so we must vacate the room by 3:30. Please take note of our schedule for next season on our website. Last
month’s newsletter had the non-boater fee for Casitas at $25, it is actually $30. And a big thanks to Ron Licari for helping me
cook burgers at the recent Bass World West top Gun tournament at Castaic.
Love Ride
The Love Ride is coming up at the lower lake on November 14. As usual we will need volunteers for our beer booth which is always a great fundraiser
for the club.
Anglers Marine Bass-a-thon
One of our longtime sponsors, Anglers Marine, is hosting their annual Bass-a-thon November 13-14th. As usual they will have a great line of guest
speakers and all of the latest tackle on display. I urge everyone to attend this great show.
If for some incredibly strange reason you have a gift certificate to Anglers Marine that we gave to you at last year’s banquet, , then you had better
check the date on it. If it is still good then the Bass-a-thon would be the perfect time to use it. When our sponsors are kind enough to donate gift
certificates, then we need to make sure that we use them! Our next club tournament is a non-points event at Lower Castaic Lake on November 21st.
Please take a hard look at our sponsor page and support those who support us!
