January 2005

Meetings-second Thursday of the month
Next meeting-January 13th at Hamburger Hamlet in Valencia
Welcome to 2005!
Happy New Year to all of you! I hope that 2005 brings much success and many bass to you! As we start out this new year, I believe it is time for a
recap of last year's club events.
January: the club starts out at Castaic and the rumored jig bite turns out to be for real. Doug teams up with his guest fisherman (and brother-in-law)
to top the field and get the year going.
February: the club hits a drought ridden Piru Lake and Norm teams with Mike Gioia to best the field with a 15lb limit led by Norm's 7 lb event big
fish.
March: the club hits Casitas for a sight fishing affair. Mike Munson teams with Gioia to best the field by changing gears and split shotting lizards to
get three quality keepers and the win.
April: with Pyramid closed the club shifts to Castaic instead and once again Doug is on top, teaming with Scott for a 15lb limit caught Carolina rigging.
May: a huge 13 boat field hits a drought parched Cachuma to enjoy success on a variety of baits. Over the course of the two days Mike Munson and
Brian top the fields by wacky rigging worms and getting fish on a few other baits as well. The club has a great time on it's annual two day camping
trip.
June: the club wins the Castaic Challenge event again, and great BBQ feast precede and follow the event, along with a great raffle of merchandise
donated by our great sponsors.
July: In our first ever two day event at Castaic, Doug and Dave Eberle team up to crank their way to victory.
August: the club visits the Dead Sea (Casitas) but Mike Lander proves it is still alive by catching a hawg, helping he and Karl to the Victory.
September: the club weighs paper at Castaic as Mike Carpenter and Scott find the shad and bass en route to the win.
October: the club gets wet at Pyramid as Buck and J.D. walk away with the win.
November: in our annual non-points event, the club fishes through a deep freeze at Pyramid to see Carpenter and Larry Wild get the win with Ernie
returning to take big fish honors.
Love Ride
A huge thanks to all of those club members who helped out with this year's Love Ride Beer Booth. This was by far our most successful single
fundraiser of the year.
Christmas Dinner
A great time was had by all at our annual awards banquet held December 5th at Don Cuccos in Canyon Country. J.D. provided some grammy award
winning entertainment and our sponsors provided some first rate product.
A huge thanks to Mark Mills of Shimano who sent us a great 7ft. casting rod, which was awarded to Grant for all of his support. Speaking of Grant,
he once again came through for the club, bringing us all kinds of goodies from his shop at Sun Country Marine in Castaic. Don't forget, he'll give any
club member 10% discount on any purchases. And when you get hungry make sure to stop by Gallions Corner Market in Castaic for a fresh
Sandwich. Owner Steve Gallion donated a bunch of great product for our banquet, stop by some time when you get off the water.
We got a great box of lures from Val White of Action Tackle as well, another long time club supporter. Stop by some time and pay him a visit.Sal
Vallone of Bob Sands Tackle was generous as always, donating a $25 gift certificate. Please pay him a visit sometime down on Sepulveda Blvd in
Van Nuys. Doug walked away with one of the biggest prizes at the Banquet, a $75 gift certificate provided by Amir at Lakeside Marine in Castaic.
Amir will put club members in the front of the line when it comes to his great boat service. And a certain interesting fellow no longer runs the mini
mart section, so it is okay and safe to drop by anytime!
Joe Contaldi supported us as the manager of Sport Chalet Stevenson Ranch and has continued that support as head of the Porter Ranch Store. Joe, a
big supporter of the FOCL float tube event, was generous in donating a $25 gift certificate.
Although we appreciate all of our sponsors contributions, I truly wanted to save an extra special thanks for Chris Johnson of Bass World West in
Santa Ana. Chris showed some incredible generosity in donating a load of awesome quality tackle. This included Revenge Spinnerbaits, Yamamoto
Ikas, Lure Logic Jigs, Sugoi Flourcarbon Line, and several jerkbaits as well. And to top it off, he donated a $50 gift certificate as well, which was
awarded to Mike Munson. If you have not been to Bass World West you are really missing out. They have the some of the best quality tackle and
customer service that you will find anywhere. Thanks again C.J!
