March Tournament Report
The third tournament of the 2005 CBC circuit took place at Lake Casitas on
March 13th.
With the lake being near capacity for the first time in four years most
members were wondering what kind of bite they would encounter. The high
water meant less sight fishing opportunities than in the past, but anticipation
was still high that some large fish would be brought to the scales. As things
turned out, fishing the day after an A.B.A. tournament contributed to some
very tough fishing. Several members reported getting many bites in practice
but that was during bright, sunny conditions. With the changing cold front
rolling in the bite changed dramatically. Actually, it pretty much shut off!
Still, Doug and Ernie weighed in four nice ones, led by the event big fish of
6.22lbs. Great job guys!

Taking a close second were Mike Forslund and Mark
O'Borsky with four fish weighing 9.78 lbs.

Taking third were Marcia Thompson and Mike Carpenter with the only limit of
the day, weighing in at 8.85lbs.

Worthy of mention was the performance of new member Mark Poulsen. I
fished with Mark and got practice with my netting technique as Mark brought
three nice fish to the scales. Great job Mark! And congratulations to Grant
Powell on catching a great 5.34lb bass!

A total of 14 teams took part in today's event. Our next club tournament is
scheduled to take place at Pyramid on April 17th, but at this time we are not
sure if the lake will be open to an oil spill in the area. Please visit our club
website to vote on an alternate lake site if you haven't done so already! The
speakers at our next meeting will be the father and son combo of Team
Davie, you want to miss it!
Last meeting The speaker at our last meeting was club favorite Ron
Cerveka, who gave a great speech on swimbaits. Ron also gave away
some great products, including a Fish Hedz helmet to keep you dry and
warm on that first run in the morning!

A huge welcome to our newest members, including Mark Poulson, Herbert
Sauceda, Ron Wilmot, Richard Zimmer, and Bo and Jake Viescas, all of
whom joined at our last meeting. As you can see we continue to grow!

News and notes
The Friends of Castaic float tube bass derby will take place at the lower lake
on April 23rd. We will need volunteers to bring their boats and weigh fish for
the tubers. FKPWarehouse.com and
Roboworm are donating some great prizes for this event.

Please stay tuned for news for on the Bassing for Abused Kids charity
tournament. Originally scheduled for May 7th at Castaic, rumor was that it
had been canceled for this year. Stay tuned, we are hoping that it will still be
held.

The first night tourney of the year season will take place on May 20th. We
will not only need volunteers to cook the food but we also will need a
committee of two or three people to buy the food and take it to the lake. Karl
has been hauling it all out to the lake since we began these events in 1999
but those days are over. If you still like the great trophies and banquets and
camping trips that our club takes (things that many clubs can't afford to fund)
then make sure you pitch in this year at the BBQ's. A sign up sheet will be
passed around at the next meeting to get this committee together.

Please remember that if you cannot make a meeting you must send along
word that you are going to fish the tournament. We don't want to keep
anyone from fishing because we don't have enough sign ups at the meeting.
This is just a matter of common courtesy.

Please look at our sponsor page and support those who support us!
