12 teams gathered on this day for the 6th points event of the 2005 CBC
circuit. Time was short as DFG rules stated that after six hours competition
would cease for the day. This was not all bad as temperatures on the day
soared past the century mark by the noon weigh in. Fishing appeared to be
excellent as 8 five fish limits were weighed in.
Leading the charge were Mike Forslund and Clyde Crow with a great limit
weighing 16.12lbs, led by Mike's 3.51lb event big fish. Way to go Mike!
Mike said that he was also helped out, as always, by his sponsors, Aim
Marine of San Diego, Triton Boats, Evinrude, and Seaquar fishing line.
Great job guys!
Taking second were Ralph and Mark O'Borsky with another great limit
weighing 13.93lbs. Mark said the key was approaching the fish quietly with
Ralph's new and improved engine, and then throwing topwaters and drop
shotted worms at the fish. Great job guys!
Taking third were Mike Munson and Larry with another limit weighing
12.54lbs. We'll have to wait to hear if Mike got any on Zara spooks. Great
job gentlemen! I also wanted to pass along congratulations to new angler
Linda Bell who caught two nice ones under the careful tutelage of Mark
Poulson. Great job Linda! Catching all of those fish made everyone hungry
so a large group gathered at Vinny's Pizza afterwards for a great feast.
Our next event (the one Jeff Jue is really excited about) will take place at
Lake Piru on August 14th. Word has it that Larry might show up with BBQ
again? We can only hope!
Meeting location
You may have heard at our last meeting that we could be changing our
monthly meeting location. As of right now, however, we are still meeting at
Hamburger Hamlet. Our next tournament will be at Lake Piru with a
non-boater fee of $30.
A big thanks to all of those club members who helped out with the recent
planting of fingerings Florida Bass. These members include Rich, Larry,
Ron C., Mike S., Linda, Marcia, and a FOCL member Mike Ilgin, who was a
guest at our last meeting. We hope to see you around more Mike!
The next FOCL night event will be held this coming Friday night. As usual
we will need help grilling the burgers! Please email me to let me know if you
can bring any of the supplies out to the lake. We need someone to buy a
couple of boxes of burgers, as well as someone to purchase around 40 hot
dog buns and 60 hamburger buns. We really need this to be a team effort.
Don’t forget, if you help out with the BBQ you can fish for free at
night after the tournament blasts off!
After the last meeting a group got together to select the lake sites for next
year’s club tournament schedule, and this is what we came up with:
January 15th: Castaic
February 12th: Piru
March 12th: Casitas
April 16th: Pyramid (date will have to be changed due to a conflict with
Easter Sunday).
May 13-14th: Perris (two days, may have to be changed due to a conflict
with Mother’s Day).
June 18th, Castaic (non challenge, this one will count for points)!
July 16th: Castaic
August 12th-13th: Cachuma two days (may have to be changed due to
conflict with FOCL BBQ the preceding Friday night).
September 17th: Castaic club challenge (non points) October 15th: Casitas
November 12th: Pyramid December 3rd, Castaic (a special, non points
event, more details to follow).
As you can see, some dates may have to be shifted due to holidays or other
special events, but the Castaic dates are set as we have variances for those
dates. I’ll clean it up and get a better looking schedule when we get
these conflicts resolved. In all likelihood no lakes will be changed, just the
dates.
