13 teams from the Castaic Bass Club hit the water for a very tough event at this Grapevine Lake. Several club members had reported an exceptional week of pre-fishing during dry, sunny conditions. Yet, we all know that the best way to change the weather is to plan a bass tournament, and this pattern certainly held true to form as cool, windy conditions prevailed.. Fortunately, the rain and lightning show held off until the next day!
Running on pure adrenalin and large amounts of caffeine, Jeff Jue and Mike Lander had raced back from the tri states fish-off at Havasu in order to get to Pyramid in time for the club event. Jeff proceeded to team up with long time club supporter Grant Powell to catch a five fish limit weighing 7.75lbs, led by Grant’s 2.99lb event big fish. Great job guys! As always, Jeff wanted to extend a big thanks to his sponsors, D.C. worms and Fish Hedz.
Taking second was Tracker Pro Mark Poulson, who teamed up with Marcia Thompson to catch four fish totaling 6.08lbs. Great job guys!
Rounding out the top three were Rod Wilmot and Ron Licari with two nice fish totaling 4.59lbs. I know that their success was made possible by Ron’s fish hedz mask which kept his eyes clear on the 1st epic run of the morning!
We have one more points tournament left, and please remember, it has been rescheduled for November 6th at Castaic to keep it from conflicting with the Bass a thon and the Love Ride the following weekend. So please remember, we will also be having our meeting a week early as well, on November 3rd. See ya’ll there!
Meeting date
As I mentioned, with meeting being earlier, the November tournament date will be earlier as well, on the 6th. Please, if you cannot attend, send along word with someone if you plan to fish the tournament. The tournament will be taking place out of Castaic’s West Ramp.
If you have been in the club for at least one year, chances are that you have a yearly plaque with 10 small plates on it. If you finished in the top four or caught an event big fish in any of our tournaments this past year, you can have these accomplishments added to your plaque. Of course, this doesn’t get done by magic, so you must bring your plaque to next meeting, and as a last resort to the tournament on the 6th. That way we can get them to the trophy shop in time to get them to you at the Christmas banquet!
The Christmas Banquet will be held on Sunday, December 4rd at El Chapparel, 19132 Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country. This will be a noon-time brunch. A ton of great awards will be given out and you don’t want to miss this great event.
We will also be handing out merchandise from our great sponsors, and of course will need help soliciting these sponsors. Please make sure to attend the club meeting and pick up a request sheet to take to a sponsor near you!
A huge thanks to those who have helped out with our great fundraisers from this past year. Of course, we will see all of you at the Love Ride on November 13th, but we will also need a couple of volunteers to help on December 3rd at the West Ramp as I fire up the BBQ for the last time this year at the season opener for National Bass West.
Nice job goes out to all of our members who participated in and won the recent bass club challenge at Piru and Pyramid. These include Mike Stern, Mark Poulson, Mike Forslund, Mark O’Borsky, J.D. Dorsey, Jeff Jue, Mike Lander, Clyde Crow, Ron Licari and Ralph Rosas. Great
