Awards Banquet Our awards banquet was held on Sunday, December
4th at El Chapparal in Canyon Country. Everyone in attendance had a great time, the food
was excellent, the camaraderie was great, and the prizes provided by our sponsors were
greatly appreciated. In fact, we had so much merchandise that no members went home
empty handed.
A ton of great looking plaques were given out, with each member of our challenge event
team receiving some great looking hardware for the wall. Plaques were given out for the top
ten year end finishers, and a special plaque was given to Mark O’Borsky, along with a great
Abu Garcia spinning reel, for being the highest finishing non-boater. Second place finisher
Mike Lander received the Big Fish of the Year plaques, along with a framed picture of his
Piru monster. I want to send along another special thanks to Mike for all the great
merchandise he donated for the banquet and to the club all year long to help support our
raffles. Mike is supported in his fishing by St Croix fishing rods, Maxima line, Team Davies
tackle company, and Skeeter boats. Thanks again
Mike! The night
culminated with our Angler of the Year Mike Forslund receiving the Green Jacket as club
champion! Mike proved in his acceptance speech that his is a very humble champion. Mr.
Forslund is supported in his fishing by Triton Boats, Evinrude, Seagar fishing line, and Aim
Marine of San Diego. Great job Mike!!

Thanks to all of our sponsors who supported us during this last season and at the banquet.
These include Sal Vallone of Bob Sands, Mike Brakebill of Roboworm, Val White of Action
Tackle, Len Taylor of Taylor Tackle, Amir Ibrihim of Lakeside Marine, Steve Gallion of Gallion’
s Corner Market, and our very own Grant Powell of Sun Country Marine Castaic. Please take
a look at the sponsor page of our website and be sure to support those who support us!
And thank to Michael Stern for all the hard work he does in maintaining our website!

You will not owe your normal $10 monthly dues at this first meeting, we do not charge that at
the first meeting of the year. This is because you have to pay your $25 annual dues
instead. Every month after this , you will owe $10 per month. So, at the first meeting, if you
fish, you will pay $25 in annual fees, $10 for the tournament, and $5 for big fish, for a total of
$40.

Please take a hard look at the 2005 fundraiser volunteer sheet enclosed with this newsletter.
For every fund raiser you worked last year you get $3 off your annual dues. If you think the
fees you owe are not correct, please call me or email me to let me know so I can correct it!

A huge thanks to all of our guest speakers from last year, including Keith Nighswonger, Ron
Cervenka, Carol Martens, Dan Warme, Team Davies, Rich Tauber, Richard Smith (thanks
Smitty!) and Bill Siemental. All of these anglers take out the time to come and talk to us for
free, and often bring great product for our raffles. Thanks to all of them!

The guest speaker at our first meeting of 2006 will be Carol Martens.

You may have seen in the headline of this newsletter that we will be returning to Hamburger
Hamlet for our meetings. J.D. stopped by and talked to management and they seem eager to
have us back. One issue-bills will be issued by table, not by individual. So make sure you
pay for your food, please don’t leave without paying your bill. Also, please include a 15%
gratuity with your meal, so someone sitting across the table from you will not have to pay part
of your tab! Hopefully you’ll enjoy the great variety of food at the Hamlet and Marcia can
return to start ordering her enormous chocolate sundaes!!

If you are a boater, please bring a copy of your boat insurance to the first meeting for the
club files. You cannot use your boat in one of our tournaments unless you show proof of
insurance.

One final note, please make sure that if you cannot make a meeting that you call someone
on the executive committee to let them know if you are going to fish. If you suddenly decide
not to fish or don’t send along some kind of word, you may not be able to paired up to fish
the next tournament. We will not mess up the draw to accommodate late comers or mind
switchers unless we have a spot for you!
