Club hits a wet and wild wet Castaic
27 members showed up January 15th to start the 15th season of the CBC circuit. As the
morning lights began to show members speculated whether of not we would even get on the
water as the famous North wind reared her cold, ugly head. Taking first on this day was Jeff
Jue fishing solo, with a huge sack weighing over 29lbs, anchored by a 12lb hawg. Rumor
has it that he caught in on a lure that starts with the letter “H.” This was one of the biggest
sacks recored in club history, topped onlyby Gary Harrison’s 33lb sack in 1994. Great job
Jeff!

Finishing in second place were Mike Lander and Larry Wild with another great sack weighing
19.99lbs led by a 5.13lb kicker. Larry added that the harder the wind blew the better the bite
became. Mike is supported in his fishing by St Croix fishing rods, Skeeter, Maxixa line, and
Team Davies Tackle company. Great job guys!

Finishing 3rd were Mike Carpenter and Marcia with another great limit totaling 18.24lbs, with
Marcia catching a nice five pound kicker. What a great way to start the year, great job guys!

Of special mention is new Member Josh Logerot who teamed up with Karl for a great 4th
place finish! And thanks to Tournament Director Ron Licari and Weigh Master Mike Forslund
for a fast and efficient weigh in!

A huge thanks goes out to lifeguards John Ragsdale and Jeff Jones. John was able to get us
on the water before the winds began to howl, and as it turned out our club was the only
group on the lake all day! And Jeff did a great job of donning his wet suit and helping us to
get our boats on the trailers at days end. Thanks a bunch guys!!

Since this is the beginning of our 15th season, I want to make a few special comments as the
tournament season swings into action. First off, we had a great crowd at our first meeting of
the year, with several new members in attendence. These include Josh Logerot, Mike Ilgin of
FOCL fame, Donnie Stevens, and Grant Powell. Grant, a sponsor of our club from Sun
Country Marine in Castaic, offers members 10% off purchases from the tackle section of his
store. A huge welcome to all of you!

I also want to thank Mike Lander for once again donating product for our fundraising raffle.
Mike is always generous with product from his sponsors. And a huge thanks to Gary
McNaught for the great tailspins he donated. He has some great looking baits and if you
have any questions about his baits please contact him at mcspinns@aol.com. Thank you
gentlemen!!

And once again it was very special that Carol Martens was able to drop by for a visit and
give us a great speech! We’ll see ya’ll next month at Piru!! No bubble gum worms allowed!!

The speaker at our February 9th meeting will be noted Western Pro Ray Leyerly. Ray is a
great guy who fishes a number of regional tournament circuits.

Speaking of the next meeting, here is a proposed by-law change, submitted on January 12th
by J.D.:
In the event a member of the Castaic Bass Club quits the club (verbally or in writing) or
misses two meetings without paying dues; he or she can only be reinstated by a majority vote
of the Castaic Bass Club membership.
This will be voted on at the next meeting and if approved will be a new club rule.

See ya’ll at Piru, Feb 12th, with a non-boater fee of $30.
