Lake Cachuma

The 8th event of the 2006 CBC circuit took place at this beautiful Santa Barbara Lake under
perfect conditions. Heavy fog prevailed each morning, eventually burning off to breezy,
sunny afternoons. The lake was near capacity and was in a classic summer patterns, with
many of the fish holding near the ledges on the edge of flats.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the Bassmaster’s Classic or a little ole club tournament, a multiple day
requires that you be not only consistent but also versatile. This worked perfectly for the first
place team of Mike Carpenter and J.D. Dorsey as they weighed in a two day total of 10 bass
for 22.14 Lbs. Included in their catch was J.D.’s 5.18lb event big fish. Great job guys!

Taking second were Jeff Jue and Shelley with seven fish totaling 19.05lbs. Jeff was sure they
would have weighed in limits on both days but second day trolling motor problems did them
in, Still, second place is nothing to be embarrassed about. Great job!

Taking third were Michael Stern and the editor with a two day total of 10 fish for 18.89lbs.
Most of these fish were taken out on the breaks on the edge of flats in 25-30 feet of water.
We had sacks of 9.79 and 9.10lbs. Morning Dawn was the hot color, and I certainly have to
give Stern all the credit for finding the bass in pre-fish. Thanks Mike!

The highlight of the trip was probably the Saturday evening BBQ. Master Chef Jules Dorsey
cooked up over 80 pieces of chicken and over 50 sausage link, complete with baked beans
and Potato Salad. This food, along with the many beverages shared by club members, along
with great camaraderie, made for probably my greatest trip ever with this club!!

Next tournament
Our next event will be the annual challenge tournament on Sep 17th out of Castaic’s West
Ramp. Although this is a non-points event, this is not your ticket to skip the event! It is
important that we have a large field to not only make us look good but also to help us win the
event! As this is a non-points event, I fully expect some sharing of patterns to go on at the
meeting on the 14th! Folks, it’s not time to keep secrets, it’s time to share so we can win this
event! As usual we will host a BBQ the night before the event by the lifegaurd tower at the
West Ramp, starting around 5PM. Family are welcome to att end. Preperations for the event
will start the next morning at 4AM. You are welcome to stay the night in the parking lot the
night of the 16th. Remember, this year we are being paired up with fellow club members, so
let’s share techniques at the next meeting!

Thanks so much to all of those who have helped out with the night tournament BBQ’s this
past summer, you will receive $$$ off your dues for each event you worked!

A great job to Michael Stern in running the Castaic region of the U.S. Angler’s Choice team
circuit for the last two years. Mike Iljin will be the new director, good luck Mike, I know you’ll
do a great job! Mike wil also serve as our new President unitl the end of the year, with Mr.
Stern assisting. Of course, this is all due to the fact that our present President, J.D., will be
leaving us and relocating to Georgia. As you may know, when J.D. joined this club he was
mostly a float tuber, but he quickly turned into a great backseater each and every month.
This will be a huge loss for the club as J.D. has worked tirelessly on behalf of our club. His
endless enthusiasm for club events, and his overall vision for both the present and future of
this club will be sorely missed, along with his incredible BBQ skills! J.D., remember, it’s okay
to be a Nebraska fan, and good luck down south, try to have your door open for any club
members that venture down your way, our doors will always be open for you.

Rummage sale reminder
This reminder from club member Shelley Singer:
“Our fishing tackle rummage sale is slowly moving forward. We are tentatively looking to
coordinate it with the Friends of Castaic Lake charity event early next April. It is never too
early to volunteer as I need all the help I can get. You can contact me at 661-252-5260
(home) or 818-726-3984 (cell) or by email at eyecooktoo@yahoo.com.“
