Welcome to 2007!
A very Happy New Year to all! Hopefully your holiday season was a good one and you are
looking forward to a great new Fishing season. But before we look forward, lets look at a
recap of this past year...
January: the club is faced with bonechilling North winds but Jeff is not deterred as he sacks a
giant 29lb limit, led by the year’s big fish of over 12lbs!
February: More strong winds, but of the warm Santa Ana Variety greet us at Piru, as Jeff
throws the trout bait and once again wins, with a 6lb toad.
March: will we ever have good weather for a club tournament? As the coldest front of the
year roared in from the North, Casitas plays host with surpisingly pleasant weather. Jeff and
Mike Iljin team up, with Jeff finding the swimbait fish again, as the duo sacks 24lbs!
April-naturally it is cold, but then again it is Pyramid. A ton of fish are caught, but few big
ones. New member Victor catches the big fish off the back of Karl’s boat. Mike Carpenter
teams with Linda for the win.
May-the club returns to Pyramid and I practice my netting skills as Mike C. gets em’ again!
June-Manny catches big stripers and Mike C. catches bass as they take the title over a 13
boat field.
July-Larry, J.D., and John take the win while the editor takes big fish honors with a 5.55lb
toad.
August-the two day event is a blast with plenty of fish caught and lots of great BBQ eaten! J.
D. takes big fish honors as he teams up with Carpenter for the win.
September-although no points are available, many club members show up to support the
club in our annual challenge tournament against several other clubs. And Castaic wins
again!
October-Jeff Jue roars back to the front of the points race as he dominates action at Casitas.
November-Carpenter wraps up the points race at a very tough Pyramid.
December-Mike Stern allows me to practice my netting skills as he catches about eight
keepers to help us win our top ten event!
Other highlights of 2006
Thanks a ton to all of those members who helped out with this past fall’s CAST event on the
lower lagoon. Most of the boaters in the event were club members, showing that we all are
very generous when it comes to sharing our time and fishing skills with those who might
otherwise not get a chance to enjoy a day on the water. Thanks guys!
I want to personally thank all of those folks who helped out with our fundraiser BBQ’s last
year, and also a huge thanks to those who came out to pour beer in our booth at the Love
Ride. These folks included Mike Stern and his friends Liz and John; Mike Lander, Shelley,
Richard Cook, Marcia, Kim, Mike Iljin, Grant, Karl, and the editor. Also thanks to Mark O’
Borsky for bringing out his Niece Dina, along with her friend Debbie. Everyone had a great
time and made a lot of money for the club!
Once again, the club was generous with their donation of toys to some less fortunate kids
at the Five Acres group home in Pasadena. Thanks to Karl for taking care of this again!
Please note that the name of our meeting place has changed from Hamburger Hamlet to
“Rio-Rio.” We are still going to give it a go for the next meeting, we hope ya’ll will show up
early and order some dinner and drinks to support
the place! It is the same location, with a new name! We are hoping to get many new
members for the new season!
If you are a boater, please bring a copy of your boat insurance to the meeting for the club
files.
Our first tournament of the 2007 season will be at Castaic on Sunday, January 14th, with a
non-boater fee of $25. Please check the complete schedule on our website.
A couple of other notes, the Bassing for Charity tournament, which replaces the old Bassing
for Abused Kids event, will take place out of the West Ramp on April 7th. We will need
volunteers to help run the event. We will also be having our rummage sale the same day.
April 21st will be the float tube derby at the lower lake, launching from the west shore.
Thanks to all of our great sponsors who supported us this past year. Please find them on
our website, and be sure to support those who support us!
