August Meeting
The August meeting was devoted to the upcoming tournament at Lake Santa Margarita. Mike went over the “split weigh-in” logistics for this tournament and the club voted to give it a try. As promised our guest speaker was John Barron. Once again we were overwhelmed with information, tactics and in this case, his incredible lake knowledge. Not only is John an accomplished angler but he was virtually raised on Lake Santa Margarita and maintains a residence in the area still. He also brought product for everyone at the meeting, so if you weren’t there, well ….. to be you.
Tournament Results
The weekend got mixed reviews. Overall everybody liked the KOA, the main complaint being not enough shade. Lake Santa Margarita is very beautiful but doesn’t like to give up her fish very easily. There were so many zeros recorded that I felt like I was actually there. In the end it was Jeff Jue and Tony Franks give the rest of the club a thorough spanking with an outstanding two day total of 10 fish and 35.4 pounds. In second place were Mark Poulson and Eddie Carr with 6 fish at 14.79 pounds. Mark and Eddie took advantage of the split weigh-in on Saturday weighing in 2 fish in the morning and 2 more in the afternoon. In third place were Mike Munson and Calvin Matsui with 2 fish and a total of 7.8 pounds. This included Calvin’s 5.54 pounder that was the tournament Big Fish.

Our Challenge tournament is coming up next weekend and we have a few clubs that have given us their team lists that will represent them. Last year was tough for us since we did not put enough weight in our boats to retain the top honors. This year will be different. We have the determination and skill needed to once again regain the title. At our meeting we will have reports from all that have pre-fished and any helpful information from club members will be shared. This is our trophy and we want it back !!!!!
