February 13, 2005 Tournament Results
February Tournament ReportThe second tournament of the 2005 CBC circuit took place on February 13th at Lake Piru in Ventura County. The drought of the past several years had shrunk the lake to only a few hundred acres leading up to the New Year, but January's heavy rains completely changed the landscape and the lake, which is now at its full pool of 1200 acres. Add to that a ton of debris floating throughout the lake's main basin, and you have the ingredients for a tough tournament. The South Orange County Bassmasters had been there the day before with tough results, so we all expected some very tough conditions. Still, there is always someone who finds the fish, and on this day the team of Mike Stern and Brian Sasahara took top honors with four fish weighing 10.75lbs, led by Brian's 3.28lb event big fish. Brian reported that they caught fish dropshotting and Texas rigging. Way to go guys! Second place was taken by Mike Forslund and J. D. Dorsey with four fish weighing 9.23 lbs. Mike just joined last month and looks like he will be a force to be reckoned with. Great job guys! Third was taken by Ron Licari and Grant Powell with two fish totaling 4.26lbs. Ron said he kept the boat in perfect position all day for Grant to throw to the abundant cover to catch their fish. Great job guys! 20 members in 10 boats weighed in a total of 16 fish for a total weight of 40.37 lbs, or a great 2.52 lb average. Every fish was released alive. A huge thanks to all of our members for that effort and especially Weigh Master Scott McTaggart and Tournament Director Larry Wild for their efforts in conducting a fast and efficient weigh in. And a special thanks to Larry for his great work in getting everyone paired up in a boat! Our next meeting will feature veteran Western Pro and Tournament Director Ron Cervenka, and will take place on March 10th. Our next tournament will be at Casitas on March 13th.
