Lake Cachuma

The 8th event of the 2006 CBC circuit took place at this beautiful Santa Barbara Lake under perfect conditions. Heavy fog prevailed each morning, eventually burning off to breezy, sunny afternoons. The lake was near capacity and was in a classic summer patterns, with many of the fish holding near the ledges on the edge of flats.

I doesn’t matter if it’s the Bassmaster’s Classic or a little ole club tournament, a multiple day requires that you be not only consistent but also versatile. This worked perfectly for the first place team of Mike Carpenter and J.D. Dorsey as they weighed in a two day total of 10 bass for 22.14 Lbs. Included in their catch was J.D.’s 5.18lb event big fish. Great job guys!

Taking second were Jeff Jue and Shelley with seven fish totaling 19.05lbs. Jeff was sure they would have weighed in limits on both days but second day trolling motor problems did them in, Still, second place is nothing to embarrassed about. Great job guys!

Taking third were Michael Stern and the editor with a two day total of 10 fish for 18.89lbs. Most of these fish were taken out on the breaks on the edge of flats in 25-30 feet of water. We had sacks of 9.79 and 9.10lbs. Morning Dawn was the hot color, and I certainly have to give Stern all the credit for finding the bass in pre-fish. Thanks Mike!

The highlight of the trip was probably the Saturday evening BBQ. Master Chef Jules Dorsey cooked up over 80 pieces of chicken and over 50 sausage link, complete with baked beans and Potato Salad. This food, along with the many beverages shared by club members, along with great camaraderie, made for probably my greatest trip ever with this club!!
